Boiling wigs? Yes! Restore your wig with this method
Wait! Before you throw out that wig or hair extension simply because you think they’re dead and done for, take a few moments to read this post. Who said dry and matted wigs should be thrown straight into the trash? What if I tell you they might still have some months of good use on them if you handle them properly? You can bring your dying or dead wigs back to life! All you need to do is to boil them.
Yes! Boil them! What does boiling your wig entail? Boiling your wigs and extensions is a good way to revive them, and it is a simple way too. As the name implies, you boil the wig in a pot. You’ll need a few ingredients too, but trust me, it’s none of the ingredients in your kitchen.
To boil your wig, you need a deep conditioner with a nice smell, and a towel to dry the wig, and that’s about it. Begin by filling up a pot with water and bringing it to a boil. Ensure that the pot can accommodate your wig size so that the wig is completely immersed. Once the water has boiled, turn off your burner, add three spoons of hair conditioner (preferably silicon mix) into the water and stir the product until it mixes properly. Then, immerse your wig carefully into the boiling water and leave it to sit for between 15 and 20 minutes. You can cover the pot or leave it open, depending on your preference. When the time elapses, you can bring it out of the pot, and rinse it with plain water or shampoo to remove the conditioner. Then, place your wig on the towel to dry. Don’t dry your wig with the use of heat. Allow it to dry at its own pace.
Why should you boil your wigs? Well, first, the process breathes life into your old wigs and renews them beautifully, so that you can still use them some more times. It also helps that the process is very affordable. The only thing you need to buy is a conditioner. So, it is a cost-effective way to renew your wigs without spending too much money.
Interestingly, the boiling method is also effective for styling, even if the wig isn’t dying or dead yet. How does this work? You can curl your wig with boiling water and Flexi rods. Simply fit the rollers into your wig and place it in a pot of boiled water for a few minutes. When the wig gets dried, you will find the hair is already curled and ready to be styled. Finally, you don’t need any special skills to make it work. You can do it in a few steps in your kitchen.
What kind of wigs can you boil? At the first mention, you’re probably thinking this step would only be obtainable with synthetic wigs, but then, you would be wrong. This boiling method works on both human hair and synthetic wigs. So, it applies to all hair types.
Awesome, right? So, whether you have a synthetic or a human hair wig that looks matted and dry, you can revive it by boiling it in just a few minutes.
